Dimitrios Kanellopoulos graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Patras in 1985. He subsequently completed his specialty training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University Orthopaedic Clinic of the University Hospital of Patras.

In 1993, he was awarded a PhD from the University of Patras, graduating with distinction.

He held a salaried clinical position at the Lubinus Orthopaedic Clinic in Kiel, Germany, a specialised centre for hip and knee joint arthroplasty, and received advanced training in sports trauma at Hellersen Sports Trauma Hospital (Lüdenscheid, Germany).

He was awarded a scholarship by the Hellenic Orthopaedic Society and trained at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, USA. He subsequently trained at the hospital of the Houston Rockets (NBA), specialising in arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, and ankle.

Dr Kanellopoulos also served as a paid clinical fellow at the University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland, with a focus on spine surgery. He further specialised in limb lengthening using the Ilizarov method at the Ilizarov Orthopaedic Centre in Kurgan, Siberia.

He received advanced training in the AMIS (Anterior Minimally Invasive Surgery) technique for total hip arthroplasty under F. Laude, and further specialised in hip arthroscopy under Professor Dr Dienst in Munich, Germany, and Dr Bosch in Cape Town, South Africa.

His training was completed in Essen, Germany, and Tilburg, the Netherlands, with a focus on evolutionary percutaneous endoscopic spine surgery.
